A motorcycle rider and passenger riding past the ochre walls of the Marrakech medina

A motorcycle tour of Marrakech is one of the easiest ways to see the city in a short time: in two or three hours you can circle the medina ramparts, ride the wide avenues of Gueliz, stop at the Koutoubia and reach the palm groves of the Palmeraie, places that are far apart on foot. With Warider you ride as a passenger behind a verified local rider, at a fixed price shown before you confirm, and you pay in cash at the end.

This guide explains which areas suit a ride, how to choose a duration, what to wear and how booking works.

Why see Marrakech by motorcycle

Marrakech is spread out. The historic medina sits inside long earthen walls, the new town of Gueliz lies to the west, Hivernage and the Menara gardens to the south-west, and the Palmeraie stretches to the north-east. Taxis connect them, but you see little from the back seat, and walking between them in the heat is tiring.

A motorbike changes that:

  • Distance becomes easy. The loop around the ramparts and out to the Palmeraie is a short ride but a long walk.
  • You feel the city. Scooters and motorbikes are part of daily life here, and riding with a local puts you in the real flow of the streets.
  • Stops are flexible. A rider can pull over for a photo at a gate, a viewpoint or a juice stand, then move on.
  • Local knowledge comes with the ride. Your rider lives in the city and knows which streets are calm at which hour.

Routes and areas worth including

You do not need a fixed plan, but it helps to know what each part of the city offers. Here is a simple breakdown to discuss with your rider.

Area What you see Good for
Medina ramparts and gates Bab Agnaou, Bab Doukkala, the long ochre walls A first overview, photos
Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fna The great minaret, the gardens, the main square Landmarks, start or end point
Kasbah and Mellah Saadian Tombs area, old Jewish quarter, El Badi walls with storks History, slower streets
Gueliz and Hivernage Avenue Mohammed V, cafes, galleries, modern Marrakech Contrast with the old city
Majorelle The blue garden and surrounding streets Design, photos
Menara gardens Olive groves, basin and pavilion, Atlas view on clear days Calm, sunset
Palmeraie Palm groves, villas, open roads Space, fresh air, golden light

Inside the medina many alleys are very narrow and busy with pedestrians, carts and other motorbikes. Your rider decides what is reasonable and may park and continue a short stretch on foot with you. The ring roads around the walls are where a motorcycle really shines.

Tours

Tours are routes designed by local riders, with ordered stops, a mapped two-wheeler route, photos and weekly time slots. Each rider sets the price of their own tour, shown on the tour page. The featured Marrakech Sunset Ride lasts 2 hours. Browse them on the Marrakech tours page.

Meeting points in Marrakech

Rides start from a meeting point inside the city's riding area. The main ones are:

  • Jemaa el-Fna, the main square, in front of Café de France
  • Koutoubia Mosque, at the gardens entrance on Avenue Mohammed V
  • Jardin Majorelle, at the main gate on Rue Yves Saint Laurent
  • Gueliz, Place du 16 Novembre, next to the central post office

If you are staying in a riad deep in the medina, walk to Jemaa el-Fna or the Koutoubia gardens: both are easy to find and well known to every rider.

Timing, weather and what to wear

Marrakech is hot for much of the year. From late spring to early autumn, midday temperatures can be very high, so plan rides in the morning or from late afternoon. Winter days are often sunny and pleasant, but evenings get cool quickly once the sun goes down, and a jacket is welcome on the back of a bike.

Practical tips:

  • Wear closed shoes and long trousers; bare legs near a hot exhaust are a bad idea.
  • Bring a light layer for the evening, even in warm months.
  • Keep your phone in a zipped pocket or use a wrist strap for photos.
  • Use sunscreen and sunglasses; the helmet covers your head but not your neck.
  • Carry cash in dirhams for the ride and for small stops like mint tea or fresh orange juice.

Warider rides in Marrakech run every day from 09:00 to 22:00, so a sunset ride ending after dark is possible. For the best places to watch the light fade, read our guide to the best sunset spots in Marrakech.

Safety and comfort as a passenger

Riding pillion is simple, but a few habits make it more comfortable:

  1. Fasten the helmet strap before the bike moves, and keep it on until you stop.
  2. Hold the rider's waist or the passenger grab handle, and keep your feet on the pegs.
  3. Lean with the bike in turns instead of against it.
  4. Tell your rider if you want to go slower; you can also write it in the in-app chat, which translates messages automatically.

Every Warider rider is verified (identity, driving licence, insurance, motorcycle documents and passenger helmet), and each ride takes one passenger only. More details are on our safety page.

Making the most of your ride

A few ideas to get more from the experience:

  • Tell your rider your interests when booking: architecture, food, photos or just the views.
  • Plan one or two real stops, such as a cafe in Gueliz or a short walk in the Menara gardens, rather than trying to see everything.
  • Bring a camera if you like photography; our list of the best photo spots in Marrakech helps you choose.
  • Check entrance fees and opening hours locally for gardens and monuments, as they change.

A motorcycle tour will not replace slow wandering in the souks, but it gives you the shape of the city in a few hours and makes everything else easier to plan. When you are ready, pick a duration and a meeting point and let a local rider show you around.
